Lesson ETFs 101

ETF Fund fact

Understand what a fund fact is and how it can help you get informed decisions on your investments.

In recent years, we've seen tremendous growth in exchange-traded funds (ETFs). An ETF is a managed investment product that operates a class of underlying securities on behalf of its shareholders.

As the growth continues, Canadian regulators, who are responsible for protecting investors, update and improve their policies as part of serving their mission. Starting December 10, 2018, the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) introduced a new policy that requires brokerages, such as ourselves, to provide investors with a fund fact each time a new Canadian-based ETF is purchased

What is a fund fact?

A fund fact is a two-page, easy-to-read document that outlines key information about the investment product. It's designed to help investors make informed investment decisions by including information about the fund's holdings, risk, performance, costs, etc.

To comply with this new regulation, each time a new Canadian-based ETF is purchased in either a self-directed or Questwealth account, we'll send you a platform message with a link to view the ETF's fund fact. A reminder email will be delivered to you as well. To avoid spamming, if you buy more shares of existing or previously-owned positions, you won't receive a link to the fund fact unless a newer version is available.
